Ah-la...(as Mz Moon would say).
My aunt passed away relatively peacefully yesterday early evening. They went to get her up for supper time and she was dead. They had started giving her doses of morphine for the pain in her back (?) and trying to keep her comfortable, and I suspect that may have been the little push she needed to let go and pass over to the next great adventure. That's what I'd like to think, anyway.
She wanted to be cremated, so there will probably be a memorial service in the next week or so. I haven't talked to my cousin yet today.

It's a beautiful day here at Honeysuckle Hill. Supposed to get close to 60 today and it's sunny and the skies are blue and here I sit. lol I do have some things done and some more things to do, but I decided to start celebrating my birthday a day early and just run it on for a couple of days. Why not? It's probably a miracle I have lived this long. And miracles need celebrating.

My nephew is doing well...slight fever (expected) , and they are weaning him off the ventilator. He keeps trying to wake up, and they have apparently restrained him, because he keeps trying to pull out all his tubes. Spoke with my sister today and she cried a bit off and on, something I don't think she allows herself to do much. She said he has pancreas damage from all the drinking and I said yea, I wasn't surprised and that she hoped God could get through to him and make him understand he needs to change his lifestyle. She's very upset with his wife and I tried to gently remind her that she's only his mother now, and that wife trumps mother. It's an old story. If only it were that easy...that an unfortunate accident could make drinkers stop drinking. It rarely happens that way, but I guess sometimes it does and maybe this could be one of those times. It scares me too, the way these kids drink. Just like I'm sure it scared our parents and their parents before them.
I guess I keep coming back to the fact that there's just SO much more information out there now...when I was a kid, everybody thought it couldn't hurt you, and now we know better. But I'm sure that the base troubles that lead us to wanting to get lost in the haze of alcohol are still there and still the same.
And so it goes....

On a lighter note, I am going to make veggie burgers and sweet potato fries for supper. I have a small list of things that need attending to, like my vacuum cleaner needs to go in the shop. I need to call the vet and see if we can bring another dog along to our appointment tomorrow who needs just a rabies shot. I need to call the local witch doctor and see if they are still doing ear candling...I am having an issue with itchy way down deep ears and some possible hearing loss. (OR--I'm just not paying attention.) :) They are right here in town. I had it done about 4 years ago, I think, and it was a good thing. I want to take the vacuum cleaner tomorrow and leave it over the weekend. Which means I need to vacuum before I take it.
One thing's for sure...I have job security. LOL

I'm trying to do a better job of blogging in 2012...have you noticed? Quantity, if not quality. Yay, me.

May all your days be sunny and bright....

Hey there sister. You're in the thick of it, aren't you? I love how you keep your strength and keep on plugging. I am so sorry for your loss.
Today is sunny and bright here in central Illinois.
You amaze me Annie with all you do. You are like the energizer bunny. Do remember to take care of yourself!
I am sorry for the loss of your and prayers are in place for your nephew.
I'm sorry to hear about your aunt Annie. It sounds like she went peacefully and that is a good thing.
It's sad to see drinking or drugs get in the way and actually ruin some people's lives. Hopefully, this will be it for your nephew.
Sounds like it was a peaceful transition for your aunt. Your nephew...prayers. And, yes, wife trumps mother.
Happy, happy birthday, sweet lady!! Sounds like with your life it is a miracle you are here (as it was in mine). Celebrate! Celebrate! I am so glad you are here. :):)
PS Hope the candling helps the itchy ears. ;)
I'm sorry for your loss Annie. Its good to hear that you are holding up so well with all thats been happening around you.
Just remember to take care of yourself please. Great news about your nephews progress. Still sending prayers.
Sincerest sympathy for the loss of your Aunt.
As I am discovering aging happens quickly. Having to be cared for is something none of us want, but it seems to happen for most.
Since you are celebrating a day early, I wish you a very Happy Birthday. Having a birthday carry over for several days is a splendid idea. I will do that myself come fall.
May you have blessings and blessings and blessings throughout the coming year.
Hoping good news and good recovery remain on the upward turn for your nephew.
((hugs))
I think your aunt went easily, as you said. Given just enough to help the transition. I do hope you find someone to do that ear candling. Resident witch doctor? Hmmm. :-)
Love your blogging Annie! Sympathy for the aunt who died, glad it was a peaceful passing. And Happy Early Birthday! My housemate always says I have a birthday month rather than a birthday.
Aww, when it rains, it pours, huh? Prayers still coming for you, your family, and your nephew. I'm sorry to hear about your aunt. It's hard to let go, no matter if it's time or not. Be good to yourself, sounds like you need it. Happy Birthday!

Thanks everyone...it's been a bittersweet couple of days, that's for sure.
Kristin~~ what else can you do, right? ODAAT, one foot in front of the other...
Beth--thanks. Hope you're feeling a little more chipper with this ridiculous weather. It was 70 today here!!
Rubye Jack--One can only hope...it'll either make him grateful or make him believe he's invincible. Thanks for thinking of me...
Rita-- One day at a time...it's all I have to do. It was a peaceful transition and there is a LOT to be said for that. Thanks for the BD wishes!!
Linda...thanks. I want to email you about something in the next few days , okay?
WM--thanks you from the bottom of my heart.
DJan--Actually, the local chiropractor here in town has a girl that does it. I was supposed to call and talk to her today to set up an appointment and it slipped my mind. lol I'll call Monday.
Mary~~ I like the way your housemate thinks! We need to celebrate early and often, I think. I love you !!
Lori--Thanks. I started the day off with a one hour massage. Then the hubster took me out for a seafood lunch at Red Lobster. I think you're right, when it rains it pours. Thank goodness I have umbrellas!!!! xoxoxo
It's kind of a miracle any of us survived our young years. There may be more information, but that doesn't mean any of it gets through. I hope your nephew gets the chance to learn. And I'm sorry about your aunt. Morphine is a blessing, I know.
Happy almost birthday!
I have a friend who recently got in to a bad DUI wreck... it was his fault and the other guy was in a coma like state for about a week, then came out of it with no lasting damage.
My friend got sober and has been so for 8 weeks. This is the event that got him there. You just never know. Here's hoping for your nephew.
