February???? Already??????

February dances in on little tiny feet... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It was 40 degrees here today. I had a doctors appointment, I got there early and they got me in early and I was out early. lol Then I made a swipe by a grocery that had some incredible sales going on...things like cauliflower for 59 cents a head, broccoli crowns for 39 cents a package and avocados for 39 cents apiece!!!!!! I came out with 2 bags of great stuff and spent under twenty buckaroos! Felt like Christmas!! I was exhausted by the time I came home...it was my first day driving by myself. And walking through the store...almost too much. Came home and got off my leg for a bit, drank some tea and read awhile. Actually fell asleep and slept for almost 2 hours (not like me...). BY the time I got up, checked the mail, put a load of laundry in...it was time to think about supper. I had the last of the black/white beans still in the fridge and a quarter pan of cornbread too. Hmmmmm...what to do, what to do. DING! I had some sausage patties I'd frozen, so I took half of that package, and half of an onion and sauteed the two together. I dumped in the leftover beans, added a can of diced green chilies, some cumin and garlic, and a can of creamed corn. Mixed it up nicely in my trusty cast iron skillet and let it simmer a bit to meld the flavors. The I sliced part of a can of black olives and a little more onion. I took the cornbread and crumbled it over the top of the skillet, tossed the olives and onions on top, and then covered it all with shredded colby/jack cheese. Into the oven it went at about 300 degrees and back onto the couch I plopped. (The new issue of The Mother Earth news magazine came today!!) I lay there reading and resting as the house filled with some very yummy smells. The Irishman was flamboozeled by it, saying it was the best tamale pie he has ever had. Little did he know.... We watched a movie tonight (Netflix!) called Julia. Made in 2008, starring Tilda Swinton, it was a very strange and mesmerizing film. When it was over, we looked at each other and burst out laughing. She plays a screaming low bottom drunk, who has a "Good idea" that nearly gets her killed. It was exhausting to watch her drinking ...especially at the beginning. I really like her as an actress...she has the ability to play almost any part. I am heading to bed ...very tired tonight. Taking a key from Kim's blog, I am going to post my list of 100 things I want to do before the Big Sleep. 5 at a time, an addendum to each post. So---here goes:

1) Visit the south of France

2) Live in Northern California again

3) Write a novel

4) Walk around Macchu Picchu again

5) Learn to crochet

Namaste.

Sounds like a good day. I love getting in and out at the doctor. It happens so seldom. (Though it happened to me just the other day!) 39 cents for broccoli? Cool. Why is it your blog always makes me hungry? Thanks for sharing your life.

Wow, it's amazing that it's already February in 2010. My mom used to make the best tamale pie in the world, and this sounds like hers! There's something about your stream of consciousness writing that takes me right to your side. I'm glad I found you.

I love tamale pie. Your day was full. No wonder you slept for two hours. You're pushing yourself, so be careful not to push that knee too hard.

Dang, avocados for cheap? Lucky catch at the store. I did get some good ideas as you described the things you added to the "tamale pie", and I so do like corn bread. Your five of the list of 100 are toughies, these are huge wanna-gets/wanna-do's. Maybe start with the learn to crochet?

Macchu Picchu... again! Wow, I recently saw some travel pics from someone who was there a few months ago. What an amazing place. Lucky you!

Now you've made me want to watch that movie Julia. I'll add it to my "to watch" list.

Yep, it's February already. That's quite the list. Take it easy and recover. Don't hurt your knee :)
