Tickled PINK...

May I get a drum roll...please ????  Here she is... the Apple iPhone 3 GS...not the Cadillac model that # 4 is maybe, but nonetheless....I purchased her this morning for the outrageous price of NINETY NINE CENTS,  people. Of course, I had to re-sell my soul to AT&T, but still...  lol

I did actually answer a call today on it and send a text message.  It's a start.

It has a weather app that follows me wherever I am and tells the temperatures there. Detailed weather reports too. It has google maps and mapquest and facebook and emails and games and a camera and ...lions and tigers and bears, O,MY!!  It has iTunes and Youtube, and clocks and calendars and newspapers and magazines and videos.  Can you bake a cherry pie?, Billy Boy, Billy Boy ??? Can you bake a cherry pie, charming Billy??  It can keep me from getting lost, it can keep me from getting lonely...it can help me remember, it can help me forget.

And I feel like a fookin' eejit with it.  I always said I would never have one of these...but then, I said I'd never have a dvd player either. lol   It's going to take a while to learn all the stuff, I know. And I will probably grow to love it.

  Maybe.

All in all it was an interesting day. I rushed down to the store in a city about 35 minutes from here around 9:30 and got there just after they opened. I flounced through the double doors and said, dramatically,..."Hello boys!!  Grandma's here !!!   They all laughed and the young man who took care of me (Aaron) was a doll. He patiently explained everything to me and a couple of times I had to interrupt and say--hey, sonny--I was born in 1953, not 1853...

  Come on, now.

All in all, it was a good experience there and they were extremely helpful and I came home with a $375.00 phone that cost me .99  (How the heck can they POSSIBLY do that?????)  And I'm really tickled to use it and start figuring it all out.  I kept the boys laughing and a stranger came up and asked me if I liked Texas Roadhouse. I said, sure..and he gave me a card for a free appetizer.  I don't know who he was, an owner maybe...looked too old to be management.  And then Miss Roxie and I came home.

I made a big skillet of bbq'd ribs for the Irishman for supper, with quinoa and a skillet of sauteed cabbage with shredded carrots and chives in it. It was awesome.

Tomorrow I will make a pot of chili and some kind of a casserole so he'll have easy food while I'm gone. I also want to make him a couple of veggie burritos for Thursday after work...I won't be here, and he has a class, so needs some mobile food to go with him.

Heck. I might even bake him a pie...I think I have an unbaked pumpkin one in the freezer, as well as an apple. That would be easy enough.  I have been invited over to my neighbors for breakfast in the morning and then need to pick up some pay and come home and get this house cleaned. I haven't really done a darned thing for several days...I'm pretty sure that if you looked under my dining room table, you find enough dog hair to build a Sheltie or two.  I do have the laundry all done and caught up. I need to pack and figure some things out and get ready for the southward trek.  I paid all the critical bills this afternoon.

Geez. I may actually be able to do this with a minimum of discomfort and madness.  LOL

Well, I am tired and have to get up early for breakfast at the neighbors (8:30). Time to see about a little shuteye, and dream of Steve Jobs and Apples and confront my nightmares of being adrift in a sea of technology.

  Wish me luck.

A Winning Wednesday...

Wow.  Wow oh wow oh wow.

I received my new Hewlett Packard computer this afternoon.  It arrived right before time for me to leave, so I didn't get to play until tonight.  It's all hooked up and I am trying to get used to the new keyboard and mouse. Not to mention Windows 7 instead of XP.  I did not download anything off the old computer, so I am starting all fresh here. There is so much crap on the old Compaq that I couldn't bear the thought.  lol

This thing is a dream come true. It is incredibly fast.  So far, I am loving it. (Stay tuned to see if the romance lasts....lol)

I haven't downloaded my new camera software on it yet, but will probably do that tomorrow when I'm not so tired.  It's midnight now and I'm about bushed.

Cooked up a mess of sweet and smokey barbequed ribs for supper tonight. I made some bbq sauce using splenda and a fair amount of cayenne pepper, liquid smoke and spices. Smashed some taters and opened some homemade applesauce and made a salad. I took ribs and salad with me for my supper and the Irishman had the carbs with him. I actually took a ittle bit of mashed potatoes, but I couldn't eat them. :)   Don't ask me...I have been eating a very low carb diet for two and a half weeks now, trying to lose some weight. So far, I am down 7 pounds.  I am not being real strict about the eating plan, but am staying away from sugar and breads and pastas. I am also reading carb counts and trying to keep it very low. I actually feel better today...my body was going through some detoxing I reckon. I haven't felt real bad...just edgy.

I'm doing the food ala The Carbohydrate Addicts Lifespan Program by the Hellers. A dear friend of mine turned me onto this and said it was her guide when she lost a hundred pounds.  The best part--I get to eat 2 big salads a day and enough fresh vegetables to keep me sane.  So, I'll keep you informed (like you really care) about how it's working.  I am finding my craving for sweets and carbs is going away. The only thing I really miss is popcorn. And in the past 2.5 weeks, I made some ONE night, when I was craving something salty. and damn...it was GOOD.  lol

The sun was out today and it got close to 70 degrees. A beautiful day and there are more to come. Then we have thunderstorms coming. But it's staying relatively warm, even then. So I can manage. I was up at 6:30 to the sounds of birdsong and dogs barking in the distance. It was a beautiful thing...

Okay. I'm gonna play a little more and then head for bed.  So glad I get to stay home on Fridays...

Prayers and blessings offered up for our Japanese family.

Thursday's child has far to go....

Isn't this beautiful? Somebody worked on this piece of needlework for a long time...I found it at a flea market for one dollar. It graces my office wall.
***************************

As you can see, I didn't get on here to post this morning. lol  Maybe tomorrow.  But don't count on it.  LOL.  I started painting kinda early and between that and other chores, I didn't even get on here for a while.

Had a great gathering of girls tonight at the Thursday 7PM... several that normally don't attend, 2 of whom are very new to the game. It was quite lively and the time passed so quickly. I didn't get home until close to 10...

Made bbq ribs for supper and then ate and ran...am paying for that now.  Burping like crazy. Not sure if it's the ribs or the garlic mashed potatoes... Had a good day today, a number of interesting coincidences showed themselves, and it was gorgeous weather. Hit 65 again today. Very sunny and just a tad breezy, but nothing too bad. The tornado watch petered out and we did get some thunderboomers. One of them, just as I was going to bed last night, was a doozy, and lasted close to a whole minute.  Exciting stuff!!  It even woke up the Irishman.

More seed catalogs came in the mail today.  It has me wanting to plant something sooooo bad.  But my new mantra is ..."It's TOO early, it's TOO early..."  The month of March cannot be trusted, this much I know is true.  Even April is dicey...but by the end of the month, I will be starting flats. That should take the edge off it for me, lol.

Thinking about buying some baby chicks and seeing if I can't fool one of the hens into thinking they're hers. Then she'll protect them. It might not be a problem since there's no male anymore. Roosters are known to kill and eat baby chicks, so you almost always have to separate them from a new brood. Since there are only 3 hens, it might be an easier transition. Only one way to find out, I think.. The thing is, if the hens won't accept the babies, they will freeze to death out there.  If I keep them in the house until they're bigger, the hens won't accept them. sigh... I gotta tell you-chickens are some freaky critters....

Gonna hang her up and go to bed.  It's a tad past midnight...and already I'm hoping I don't forget to turn the clocks forward Sunday early AM.  I am so ready to "SPRING forward" !!!!!
