Rain again...cool temps...

Have an abundance of eggs again, so I'll be making things like this yummy quiche and devilled eggs and things of this sort to get them used up. I have a lot of spinach and herbs ready in the garden, so it will be a delightful veggie quiche, with all manner of odds and ends in it..

Had a rough day yesterday with the Altzheimers patient in the ICU...she's furious at being there and they are doing lots of tests and she feels violated and scared and it's been just awful. Thing is, she demanded to be taken, by ambulance, to the ER on Sunday night, but doesn't remember any of it, of course. They are allowing us to be there with her around the clock , thinking it will help her, but I don't know...they think she is having gastric bleeding and today will do a colonoscopy to find out.  You can imagine how much fun it's been so far, with her jailers trying to force her to drink a gallon of that sodium bicarb/electrolyte stuff they make you drink to take that test.  I am weary.

It's thundering out there...the sort of rolling thunder that you don't associate with an actual storm. A soft rain falling, as the Irish say. It was storming all night, I woke up at 4 AM to lightning and pouring rain and jumped out of bed to close windows. There are only 2 windows where the rain actually comes in--one over my sink and one in our bedroom. I had already closed down the one in the office here, because it actually got cold in here last night as I was on the computer and listening to my new John Prine and Joan Baez cds that came in the mail. At any rate, today feels like a chili or hearty soup day, more than a quiche and salad day.  lol

I had a flashback melancholy outburst last night in here, listening to all that old music. Late 60's and early 70's...thinking about my life and the "girl I used to be". Thinking about lost loves and thrown away lives and all the flotsam and jetsam that goes with the woulda, coulda, shoulda's.  Joan singing "Jesse"...John singing "Hello in there"...remembering the youthful energy I had for protesting and marching and trying to make a difference in the world. And then Louisey posts about the DeepGreenResistance this morning and I am undone. **From DGR...."So while DGR is about fighting back, in the end this movement is about love. The songbirds and the salmon need your heart, no matter how weary, because even a broken heart is still made of love. They need your heart because they are disappearing, slipping into that longest night of extinction, and the resistance is nowhere in sight. We will have to build that resistance from whatever comes to hand: whispers and prayers, history and dreams, from our bravest words and braver actions. It will be hard, there will be a cost, and in too many implacable dawns it will seem impossible. But we will have to do it anyway. So gather your heart and join with every living being. With love as our First Cause, how can we fail?"

And still...every now and then I see sparks of the ideology and passion I once had for things like this. Before I got old and gave up. And I still believe in saving the planet, and I still do small things...but I am very afraid that sometimes I fall into that lazy, it's no use anyway-place.  Getting on towards 60, I probably have a lot less to lose than ever before in my life...in terms of..what?  I don't even know what I'm talking about. Trying to keep my focus on my own little piece of ground and at least save my own ass, even if I can't save the world. Doing small things with great love, I tell myself.  shit.

Well. This is not the direction I intended for the blog to go this morning. Funny how that happens. Funny how the older I get and the more comfortable I get in my own skin, the more important things seem. Not more important than checking on the chickens in the rain, and I guiess I'd better get out there and maybe get this computer turned off, as the sturm und drang seems to be getting more violent by the minute.

  Later daze, kids....

It's Thursday...and the sun is shining!!!

Here's an early picture of the painting of the living room. I went through some anxious moments when I was second guessing myself about the color. In the end, I'm real happy with it.

Here's a shot of the dining area, with some of the junk back on the walls. You'll be proud to know that I did scale it way down...lol  Either that, or I've just been too lazy to put stuff back up.  Crikey. Is that a cat sitting in the midle of my table??  Surely not...

I was way too tired to post last night and was in bed before midnight.  I was up before 7 AM this morning and today and tomorrow I get to stay home and play, or go out and play, or just play and play.  Or work my butt off...which doesn't really appeal to me either. WHAT??  How about a little balance, you say?? How about a little work and a little play? hmmmm....what a concept.

Yesterday morning  was  weird. I got a call from a lunatic woman across the pond from me, screaming at me and swearing at me and telling me to come get her dog because she was sick and tired of cleaning up after it. Before I could say anything, the gods intervened and she hung up on me. Somehow, I managed not to go over to her house or call her back. It would have been  a mess. As it was, I got angry, I got thoughtful, and I got busy thinking about something else.  I am constantly praying for compassion where she is concerned.  I wish that she and her husband would just move back to the city where they belong. I don't think it will be long. They have taken most of the trees off their 5 acre property because she "doesn't like trees".  She gets pissed becasue the ducks and geese make too much noise on the pond, and it bothers her.  There are bugs in her house, no matter how much Raid she sprays and the mice too...don't get her started on the mice.  I just smile and shake my head. This is country living, bitch.  Out here, you learn to co-exist on some small level with Mother Nature. Or--you go away. Becasue MN will win every time. They fight and scream and call each other vile names...and it all drifts across the water to my backyard.  I told her once that every time they fight, I could write a ttranscript of it. She said she didn't care. I said, well I care.  I care about havingt abusive energy and language assaulting my senses every time I go outside, or if my kitchen window is open.  She flounced off. (She's a flouncer).

   Sigh...

I really wish I had 40 or 50 acres, so I could live in relative peace. Of course, I'd have to have a handsome young handyman to help take care of it all.  *snork

I'm going to take my baby sister out for lunch today, if she's free, and maybe bring her home with me for a while. That means I need to get off here, get a tiny bit of straightening up done and maybe start a load of laundry.

Then I'll make a nice supper for us and actually have an evening meal  with my husband.

  OOooo...the possibilities.

For now, I have to check on my chickens. The rains have turned their chicken run into a muddy mess.  I'll feed them and talk to them and collect some eggs and maybe make a nice quiche or something. We'll exchange some chicken loves and then I'll mosey on into the day....

Winter's back !

We don't want no more stinking winter.....
***********************************************

Several days in a row of 40+ degrees and now we suddenly have a winter weather advisory all over us again. sigh...Looking at a possible 4-6 inches tonight and tomorrow...and I have to be at the doc at 9 AM to have the sutures removed. Luckily, the Irishman is off tomorrow and will be home to drive me. His Wisconsin genes come in real handy....lol

Woke up sick this morning and hurled a few times throughout the day. Very icky, but tonight I am better. Not 100%, but better than I was. YUCK! I rested a lot today and napped a few times too.

I made a quiche for supper tonight, we have a surplus of eggs,. as the chickens suddenly started laying again out of the blue, after 6 months without a single orb. Mysteries of the Universe. I had a tiny chunk of bacon in the freezer, and coupled with some spinach, onions and sun dried tomatoes, it made for a feast. I tried something new with the crust too....and tomorrow you can read all about it at Dragon Womans Kitchen. I promise. lol I even snapped some lovely pictures.

We watched a marvelous documentary called A Man Named Pearl tonight. Pearl Fryar is a man in Bishopville, SC who does incredible works of topiary art. He watched a 3 minute demonstration at a nursery one time, thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen, and went home and started a magnificent living art display on his 3 acres. It's a heartwarming testament to the spirit of a man...I rate it A+++. Netflix has it. I'm sure you can google him and prepare to be amazed.

I'm tired and going to bed early tonight. Plus I have to be up by 7. The critters are all snuggled in, sleeping here and there, and everyone is in for the night (I hope). Have to do a head count before I turn in....My knee is itching like crazy and I cannot wait to get these stitches out. I took a shower tonight and shaved my legs, even. lol I halfway wrapped up the knee and didn't care...the dang things are coming out first thing in the morning--so what if they get a little damp? Just for good measure, I dried them with a hairdryer after I finished. LOL

We're considering the concert that I won tickets to...it doesn't even start until 10PM...and we are old. LOL The Irishman still thinks he's 20, even though he'll be 50 on Monday...but he's also the one who's asleep by 9 PM, so we'll see what happens. He wants to go, we're there. I googled the club it's in and guess what??--NONSMOKING!!! YIppee..So, it might be doable. It is in the heart of St Louis, and we are just dumb old country folk, but if it happens it happens and if it doesn't, it doesn't. It's right around an hour away...IN THE CITY. That's probably not
a big deal to most of you , but it's huge for me. lol

Sayonara. I'm toodling off to dreamland....

Manic Monday

(I LOVE this!! And must admit, I kyped it off another blog.)

I had so much to do today, and got a smidgen of it done. And that's okay. (in my best Stuart Smalley voice) *grin

I am in severe pain from planting the irises yesterday, as I knew I would be. I'm all hunched over , like the Grandmother of Notre Dame...lol But I got all the laundry done today, and went to the springs to fill 29 gallons of drinking water. Yes, 29 gallons. I nearly spit! If my lower back didn't hurt enough, by the timeI had all those jugs filled it did. I carted them around back using my trusty garden wagon and got them all into the mudroom too.

I'm a freaking work horse.

I also got groceries and went to the Rural King for scratch for my chickens, lye soap for my husband (poison ivy), biscuits for my dogs and a bottle of bleach for me. Then I picked himself up from work and came home and fixed corn on the cob on the grill with teriyaki turkey burgers and grilled fat onion slices. We ate like big dogs.

Speaking of big dogs....I called the no-kill shelter in Benld and asked if I could bring Fred there. They said they were full up and unable to take any dogs that wouldn't be immediately adoptable. That translates to : something small and cuddly and cute that people want. So, Fred is still here. Not sure what the next step will be, as we really cannot afford to take care of one more animal. Especially a 75 pound guy named Fred who likes to chase cats. Sigh...I hate to call Animal Control...they will take him to the pound and after a few days or a week, he will be put to sleep. I tried to check his ears for a microchip. If there's one there, I sure can't feel it... I know that I am such a sucker for these animals, but it breaks my heart...

I am ready for sleep....kitchens cleaned, lunches made, breakfast egg sandwich made and waiting in the microwave, litter pans scooped, food and water for cats and dogs and birds all checked and filled. My darling boy is already sawing logs for the past 3 hours. I will not be getting up at Zero Dark Thirty again tomorrow. I am staying home. One of my sponslings is coming over at noon and we will have a nice little chat about the 2nd and 3rd Steps. And lunch. Not sure what I'll make yet...perhaps a quiche....I have some beautiful cantaloupes that need eating as well, and lots of blackberries too. Maybe a quiche and a little fruit salad on the side. Yummmm....I have to get up early enough to get my juice made and straighten my house a bit.

Want to shout out a WOO HOO to Macdaddy for being nominated for a black blogger award in about a gazillion categories. This man is some kind of wonderful, baby--and I am proud to be one of his stalkers. lol xoxoxox You go, Daddy....

Wishing you all the sleep of the innocents...sweet dreams and restful bliss.
